Deccan Education Society’s Shri Navalmal Firodia Law College, Pune
DES (Deccan Education Society) Shri Navalmal Firodia Law college is one the best law colleges in Pune. Many people also refer to it as Fergusson law college, the reason being it is situated on the main campus of the very reputed, popular and historic, ‘DES Fergusson college’ in Pune. The college is situated at the heart of the city on FC road (Fergusson College road) at Shivajinagar, in Pune.
One has to clear Maharastra Common Entrance Test to get admission to this college. The college is affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University. College offers three-year as well as five-year law course that is BBALLB, BALLB and LLB degree courses. College is also undergoing NAAC certification this year.
Infrastructure
DES Navalmal Firodia Law college is established on the Fergusson college campus. It covers a large area with old British times infrastructure. Law college has a modern newly built building. The campus is covered with many huge old trees. The infrastructure and the campus are very well-maintained and clean.
The campus also comprises a hostel, canteen, playground, badminton court, volleyball court, and well-managed parking area apart from educational buildings. The library of this college is also significant being the oldest and huge, having lots of books in it.
Coming to the classrooms, are well ventilated, and bright with an average strength of approximately 80 to 100 students sitting capacity classrooms also have projectors, and charging points. lift facility is also available in the building. Law college also has a separate library of its own in the same building with study desks provided for students having table laps in each of them. The library system is also very good and organized.
I personally liked the library and campus the most as whenever I visited the library I always felt very motivated because of the surrounding library atmosphere, and the beautiful campus of the college made me visit the college again and again. The campus really has some special kinds of vibes that attracted me the most may be its historic significance and greenery with old infrastructure that always calmed my mind whenever I left my college building.
Fee structure
Fees depend from course to course. BALLB and BBALLB have fees of around 26,000 per year and there can be an increment in fees for BBALLB in coming years. The college provides various modes for payment of fees, online as well as offline by cheque.
Faculty and staff
The faculty is very experienced and with high qualifications. The college always looks for the best professors with high knowledge and experience. The teaching staff is very good having efficient teaching skills, they also guide us in various fields.
The college staff is very cooperative and anyone can have solutions to their problems by asking for help from the staff. The staff is very straightforward which may sound rude or strange to other people, but they are just being very clear and straightforward which is a good thing in my opinion. Once a student asks for any help they are always ready and happy to help you.
Internship and placement cell
There is an internship and placement cell in college which tries hard to provide students with opportunities. There is a selection process and interviews arranged by our college to select students for internships or placements. According to me, this does not provide everyone with an equal opportunity to try or participate and only the best-selected students are allotted internships. But once a student is selected, he /she starts getting further opportunities beneficial for the carrier.
Co-curricular and extracurricular activities
There are too many activities going on in college very frequently. There are various competitions like moot courts, debates, and inter-college competitions in cultural, sports and academics like dance, singing, acting, story writing, painting, crafts cricket, badminton, chess archery, swimming, running, quiz competitions etc. it is difficult to say that what not is included in these activities. Almost each and every activity is included in our fest or competitions.
The college also often organizes many guest lectures on various topics. Many experienced lawyers and professionals provided knowledge and guidance. It is always exciting and motivating for me to attend these guest lectures. Various other short courses are also provided by our college which is about two to three months long and virtual. This also makes us easy to access as it is not possible to go to college frequently being in Pune to attend lectures of these courses.
Senior junior culture
The seniors of our college are really really very friendly, and supportive, they also guide and help us wherever needed. They act as a backbone for juniors while participating in any college activities. The environment is very friendly between juniors and seniors, there is no ragging in college at all.
Conclusion
Every college has its own advantages and disadvantages but we must always look for what is good and try to fix the negative. I like my law college and I am satisfied with it. We as students must remember that whichever college we are in, it depends on our knowledge, passion, smartness and hard work to build our carrier.
