how is Vivekananda School of Law and Legal Studies

Shatakshi Agarwal, a 2nd year Law Student at the Vivekananda School of Law and Legal Studies, has written this first-hand review of her law college

ABOUT VIPS

Vivekananda School of Law and Legal Studies (VSLLS) of Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS) is committed to realizing the words of Swami Vivekananda: “Man Making, Character Building and Nation Building”. Thus, the motto of VIPS is “in pursuit of perfection”.

Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS) is a private institute located in Pitampura, New Delhi. It is affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and approved by AICTE. It was founded by Dr S.C. Vats in the year 1997. The institute keeps a vision to provide quality and professional education to all students in its brilliant centres of legal education, which is comparable to the best law schools in the world.

The institute offers 19 courses at the undergraduate and 5 courses at the postgraduate level in the field of Law, Business, Media and Information Technology. It has decades of experience that has been built through its excellent, experienced faculty dedicated to imparting quality skills through a syllabus that is at par with industry trends. It provides courses in LL.M., B.E. / B.Tech, MBA/PGDM, BBA, B.J.M.C., B.Com, B.A., BCA, B.A. LL.B., BBA LL.B., M.A. and MCA.

The institute also has a well-equipped Library, Shuttle Service, Cafeteria and Convenience Store with all modern facilities. VIPS admission is done on the basis of IPU CET. VIPS is one of the best institutes where students get a chance to interact with each other and construct a vision of wisdom and knowledge.

Recently, VIPS was accredited with an A++ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

INFRASTRUCTURE

VIPS has the best infrastructure when compared to any other college. The only drawback is its small campus, which is smaller than most of the colleges in Delhi, but the buildings are advanced and spacious.

The Vivekananda School of Law and Legal Studies building has 8 floors. It contains a spacious library, elevators for faculty members and students, a boys’ and a girls’ common room, well-equipped labs, classrooms with projectors, and faculty rooms.

It also has many rooms that are still being designed, including our placement cell. The whole campus has central air conditioning, including hallways and classrooms. The maintenance and cleaning of this college is done every day. The canteen which is known as a digital cafeteria and three cafes are also good. Hostels are not available at this college, but one can find affordable hostels and PGs nearby.

Institute has two individual libraries for each building stocked with 30,000 books ranging from reference books to general knowledge. E-library provides access to a large number of digital resources, periodicals, journals, and more. They are fully air-conditioned with a total seating capacity of 200 in each library. With so many libraries dedicated accordingly to respective courses, there is a moot courtroom too on this campus.

Lab facilities include a computer lab, digital lab, print media lab, photo lab and editing lab. Other facilities include Medical Room, Convenience stores, Auditorium, Vivekananda hall, a Visitors lounge, Conference Store and Seminar rooms.

FACULTY

The teaching at VIPS is satisfactory. The teachers do make an extra effort in the learning process and help us achieve our potential. Most of the teachers are Ph.D. holders and are also enthusiastic about teaching their subject, and if you’re a bright student, they also give special attention. Attempting malpractice during examinations is very hard as the teachers are strict. If you are found guilty, they may stop you from giving papers, subtract marks, or even cancel your paper.

FEE STRUCTURE

The total tuition fee for 5 years is approx 5 Lakh for BA LLB and BBA LLB courses and it is paid annually which amounts to 89,400.

INTERNSHIP AND PLACEMENT

In VIPS, the Vivekananda School of Law and Legal Studies Placement Cell works with the objective of providing the students with best opportunities in the field of law. The aspirants are placed with the best law firms, Advocates and corporations for internship and for post placement offer.

Various grooming activities and career counselling sessions along with the training sessions are conducted regularly for their overall professional development and for their future endeavours. The Cell provides assistance to not only those who aspire to be recruited by firms but also to those who wish to establish their own venture by providing them necessary guidance.

It maintains valuable relationships with its past, and current recruiters and has established a good network with the help of Alumni who are also on the list of current recruiters. Some of the major recruiters where the students achieve laurels include Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co., Panasonic, Asahi India Glass Ltd., Lex India, Juris Law office, Manchanda & Associates, Bharucha and Partners, S.S Rana & Co. to name a few.

The students also interned with NHRC, Delhi State Legal Services Authority, National Judicial Academy, Telecom disputes and Appellate Tribunal, Central Information Commission, the Supreme Court of India, Delhi High Court, NTPC, ONGC Ltd and many more firms.

It consists of faculty members and a team of students of VSLLS. They invite Advocates, Law firms and Corporate firms to conduct on-campus and off-campus placement drives every year.

CO-CURRICULAR AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Contemporary legal education is essentially a multi-disciplined and multi-purpose education system which aims at preparing multi-tasking professionals who are lawyers and judges as also policymakers, public officials, legislators, advisors to the industries etc. Considering this, Vivekananda School of Law and Legal Studies organizes professional skill development activities from the first year itself.

International law moots, mock trials, arbitration, mediation, client counselling, negotiations, mock parliament as also plaintiff writing, judgement writing, and business contract writing these activities equip students for practical application of law in different areas.

Secondly, Students are encouraged to undertake empirical and non-empirical research under the guidance of faculty. Students and faculty members are involved in publishing and presenting research papers at conferences/seminars.

Moreover, VIPS organizes various guest- lecture series, academic visits, workshops and seminars, and internships with senior advocates, law firms and industry as well. Eminent and accomplished personalities from the Bench and Bar have been invited to guide the students. Various academicians have also been visited to motivate our students.

STUDENT LIFE

VIPS organizes numerous activities in which the students can engage themselves, h fests and different kinds of celebrations happen every now and then. The celebrations do not hinder the studies in any way and the teachers are highly qualified and encouraging. The college and its various student clubs also organize a bunch of lively cultural events for students to participate in and enjoy themselves. The college also celebrates various festivals like Diwali which offer further cultural exposure to the students.

However, the location of the college is not that great as it’s beside a slum area.

CONCLUSION AND RATING

To conclude I would like to say that VIPS is one of the best-ranking law colleges in India and the recent A++ rating by NAAC is proof of it. VIPS helps in the overall development of a student as it helps me to develop confidence and communication skills.

Lastly, I would like to mention that it provides a pool of opportunities to its students and I would rate it as 4.7/5.
